"...it's killing me".

ENDLESS QUIET

her favorite jeans
are draped on the chair
her magazines
are still scattered everywhere
found her lizard boots
under the bed
what are the chances
i'm still inside her head

   but it's been three weeks
   and i haven't heard a thing
   no text no twitter
   no familiar cellphone ring
   this endless quiet
   is deafening
   endless quiet
   is killing me
   killing me

i ask her friends
they got nothing to say
her daddy's playing dumb
he never liked me anyway
no tires crunching gravel
no gentle front door squeak
just silence surrounding me
and the truth that seems to speak

   it's been three weeks...

A good old fashioned country song featuring modern amenities such as cellphones and twitter. Nice touch.

Great lyrics, as always. You paint good, clear images, such as:

her magazines
are still scattered everywhere

The hook lines hook.

Great clear vocals.

The band came through again too.

Nice one.

Floyd,

A stunning ballad... An exceptional write and performance.

"no tires crunching gravel

just silence surrounding me
and the truth that seems to speak"

Beautiful writing. It is a complete joy to listen to your creations.

Nice work on the lyrics.... they just flow naturally into rhymes that fit.

Great job. Oh yeah, the mix is good too, as are the instrumental choices.

After the 2nd verse I was really curious about how you'd end the song...so many options spoke to me.
The one you went with is really appropriate.
This song is a wonderful thing in it's own right...melody, story, dynamic arrangement and a completely self contained package.
It's also an exemplar of how restraint, a less is more aesthetic and unsullied rhymes combine to make a stellar song.

Cheers

Floyd you have a wonderful way with words. Couple that with your excellent singing skills, your expertise at picking the right instrumentation and your production and mixing skills and you always produce winner after winner.

Loved this one.

Hi Floyd,

I do like this one a lot.

A very impressive lyrical variation of the subject which is most likely the one that's been sung about most often.

A very good backing track, great choice of the guitar solo and - surprise, surprise - ace vocals.

And, yes, it sounds perfect, too.

Take care,

Stefan

Hi, Floyd. Man, I should really have my "Comment For Floyd" in my clipboard, so I can paste it here. You are definitely my favorite lyricist, and that's not limited to this forum. The way you think of the story and how you have just the perfect twist of phrase is truly a gift that you have honed to perfection --most likely without even trying.
"her favorite jeans
are draped on the chair
her magazines
are still scattered everywhere"
What a great opening. Seems like the perfect first paragraph of a great book that one won't be able to put down.

Enjoy whatever happens!

What an excellent production on this song Floyd. It sounded so good on my speakers. Awesome vocal and lyric. Loved the tempo of the song. Kept me hanging on to each word in the lyric. So very well done..

FJ,
"endless quiet
is killing me" Nice!
Very well written modern theme tune with lots of emotion. Powerful vocals! Andy's strings fit very nicely. Sorry, I could not find anything to "pick on" smile Sounds great! I like the artwork you used.

Thank you for sharing,
Misha.

Hi floyd jane,

i like your descriptive lyrics that bring your story to life. Beautiful orchestration with a suite of well-choosen chords . The very discreet mandolin brings more to your instrumentation. I apprecied.

Signature sound, vocals, lyrics (superb) and production.

Could easily be on your "Best Of" album.

Lovely work all round.

Hello Floyd,

And there you are with another example of craftsmanship in music making!
I read in all posts I'm not alone with this statement.

A very good song, good lyrics that give some idea about the 'endless quitness' of a sudden end of a relation.
The only thing is you made me curious what happened? She didn't even took het jeans with her...

And beside all compliments on the song, I think the bariton fitted very nice in it. I like using them in my songs.

Have I said I enjoyed this song?

Hans

Super work again Floyd! I would expect no less from you! You sure know how to craft a top level song! I could go on and on about all the little things coming together here that make this great, but what caught my ears first was the beautiful work with those vocal harmonies...outstanding! Your at the very pinnacle of the best in Country writer/singer/producers ect. around here! Glad I have the opportunity to hear these songs here before they catch on big time somewhere down the road! Take care, Torrey

Hey FJ,
You are such a consistently good writer, producer and artist. It's always fun to hear what you are going to do next. Hope to be around more to do that...God willing and neither of us has to face any weather disasters. I especially like the lyrics and production and the repeat on killing me. Josie
